Praised
for its minimal cross streets, this is as close as you get to “nothing
added, nothing artificial.” The thousands who use it each
year find it the perfect trail for for biking, running and cross-country
skiing.
Off
the Trail are a variety of wonderful and unique sites. One such
site is the Devil’s Punchbowl, one of the natural
wonders you’ll
discover. Many hikers and bikers think of it as the pot at the
end of the rainbow with its 115-million-year-old rock formations.
Menomonie is the starting point for a beautiful 14-mile bike ride
along the Red Cedar State Trail. This limestone-surfaced trail
runs along the Red Cedar River from Menomonie to the Chippewa River,
where it connects with the Chippewa River Trail. Keep watch for
eagles, herons and other birds as you pass sandstone bluffs, prairies,
wetlands and wooded areas. There are picnic areas along the trail,
and a visitor's center located at the trailhead along Highway 29
in Menomonie.
Purchase a trail pass at the Depot Visitor's
Center for a daily fee of $4, or $20 annually. If the Depot is
closed,
use the self-registration boxes at the head of the trail.
